At the Memorial Day Museum opening, join us for two special dedications: The opening of a new exhibit, a renovated Pere Marquette boxcar which will be used to house train and railroad related memorabilia and artifacts, and the opening of our new Family History Center-a dedicated room to house all of our local family history material, including documents, photographs, newspaper clippings and more…as well as a workspace to perform family research.
We are proud to share an honor bestowed upon our founder, Dorothy Walter. Recognizing her commitment of over 35 years to the Museum and HTHS, Dorothy was awarded the Historical Society of Michigan’s Annual Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023. This was a notable honor, as she was chosen over scores of applicants from museums, academic settings and organizations all over the state.
From their website: “The Lifetime Achievement award recognizes an individual person’s body of work over a span of years in the collection, preservation, and/or promotion of state and/or local history.” Obviously, Dorothy is incredibly deserving of this lifetime award, and we are very proud of her!
